Resumen
El cine constituye un instrumento de representación de experiencias, ideas, colectivos o tópicos desde una perspectiva ideológica determinada. Actúa como espejo reflector de la realidad pero también sirve para representar o crear una nueva realidad. En este sentido, la industria cinematográfica estadounidense ha perpetuado una distorsión sobre el Islam, sobre todo desde el final de la Guerra Fría. Los musulmanes y árabes han adquirido un papel estereotipado reforzando así una imagen no real de su comunidad. Además, los incidentes del 11-S marcaron un antes y un después en la conciencia americana sobre el Islam. Hoy en día, la sociedad americana considera a los musulmanes como el principal enemigo de los Estados Unidos y Hollywood ha jugado un papel muy importante en esta representación.
Abstract
Film is an instrument to portray experiences, ideas, particular groups or topics from a particular ideological/value perspective. Movies reflects reality as a mirror but also serve to represent or to actually create a new reality. In this regard, the motion picture industry in the United States has perpetuated a misrepresentation of Islam, notably since the end of the Cold War. Muslims and Arabs have played stereotypical roles bolstering an unreal and inaccurate image of this community. However, the 9/11 incidents marked a significant berfore and an after in the American perception of Islam. Nowadays, American society sees Muslims as the main enemies of United States and Hollywood has played a big part in this representation.
