Resumen
Con la realización de este trabajo se busca hacer un estudio acerca de la situación en la que se encuentra el cine de terror en la actualidad. Centrado geográficamente en Estados Unidos en el siglo XXI, se analiza cómo ha evolucionado el papel de la mujer tanto delante de las cámaras como actriz; como detrás en el papel de directora. Con una perspectiva de género, se busca exponer las desigualdades entre hombres y mujeres tanto social como laboralmente. Además, se demuestra que el cine tiene muchas utilidades más allá del mero entretenimiento, es una herramienta muy útil a la hora de exteriorizar la situación de un país. En tiempos de censura se usó como vía de escape de la crítica, escabulléndose de ese castigo. Hoy, muchos años después, se usa para pronunciarse contra las injusticias, para denunciar desigualdades. Existe un cine social en donde la mujer ha encontrado un hueco —incluso en el género del terror— para mostrar a lo que se enfrenta día a día. Y es que, en esta sociedad, el machismo y la misoginia crean un entorno muy alejado de la igualdad que busca el feminismo. El cine de terror de estas dos últimas décadas ha servido para mostrar los miedos femeninos que siempre han existido. Observaremos cómo el papel de la mujer ha sido clave para esta renovación del género cinematográfico y cómo la crítica social y el feminismo están creando una sociedad más igualitaria en cuanto a oportunidades, buscando equiparar la presencia femenina y masculina a un 50/50.
Abstract
With the realization of this thesis we seek to make a study about the situation in which horror cinema is nowadays. It is geographically focused on the United States of America in the 21st century. It analyzes how the role of women has evolved both in front of the camera and as an actress; as behind in the role of director. With a gender perspective, it seeks to expose the inequalities between men and women both socially and at work. In addition it is shown that the cinema has many uses beyond mere entertainment. It is a very useful tool which can be used to externalize the situation of the country. In times of censorship it was used as an escape route from criticism, avoiding that punishment. Nowadays it is used to speak out against injustice and to denounce inequalities. There is a social cinema where women have found a place —even in the horror genre— to show what they face every day. In this society exists a deeply rooted male chauvinism that create an environment far removed from the equality that feminism seeks. The horror cinema of these last two decades has served to show the female fears that have always existed. We will observe how the role of female directors has been key to this renewal of the cinematographic genre and how social criticism and feminism are creating a more egalitarian society in terms of opportunities. They seek to equate the female and male presence to a 50/50 ratio.
